One person was killed and 37 injured when suspected militants hurled a grenade towards the highly guarded Central Telegraph Office on the first day of the holy month of Ramzan here this afternoon.

Pakistan differs on dates for talks

Pakistan today responded positively to Indian suggestion of holding the next round of technical-level talks to negotiate on the vexed issue of resumption of civil aviation links, sources in the Ministry of External Affairs and Pakistan High Commission here said.

Contempt notice to Haryana Chief Secy

Taking serious view of the Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh Governments’ failure to file replies regarding inclusion of environmental studies in the school and college curricula, the Supreme Court today issued contempt notices to Chief Secretaries of these states, saying there was deliberate disobedience of its order.

Liquor vends spell doom on highways

When a sozzled Bant Singh of Khanpur village was hit by a scooter after coming out of a liquor vend at Ganda Kherri on the Rajpura-Patiala stretch of National Highway 64 last week, he became just another addition to a list of 20,000-odd people who are either injured or killed in road accidents in Punjab and Haryana every year.
