Cop wanted in case against Badals nabbed
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, October 16
A key investor in the film ‘Hawayein’, UT police Sub-Inspector, Nirpjit Singh, alias Nippy Dhanoa, was nabbed by the immigration authorities at the Delhi airport last night while attempting to flee the country. The arrest follows the red alert sounded by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.

A team of the bureau left for Delhi to bring Nippy back to Punjab. He is wanted in a case of accumulation of disproportionate assets registered against the Badal family. He would be produced in a Kharar court tomorrow for seeking his police remand.

An officer associated with the investigations in the case said, the bureau had earlier sent a look out notice to ensure that he did not fly out from the country and applied for securing his arrest warrants yesterday. According to Vigilance sources, Nippy had applied for leave to go abroad, but this was just to evade arrest, he added.

Nirpjit had been on deputation with the Punjab police during the Badal regime and remained station house officer in prime police stations, including in Ludhiana and Muktsar districts. He had earlier been questioned in search of evidence against members of the Badal family.

Nippy, after completing his deputation, returned to the Chandigarh police and was posted in the Sector 26 Police Lines. He had been granted three years’ leave by the department to go abroad.

Meanwhile, a former Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, and his son, Mr Sukhbir Badal, will be responding to the fresh notices sent by the vigilance seeking their response to the clarifications, as promised by them during their interrogations last week.
