Simmering land row erupts again
Faridabad
Tension prevailed in Solra village in the Khader belt, on the Haryana-UP border, after a simmering row over sowing rights erupted in what has become an annual ritual. It is reported that certain elements, hailing from Fareda village of UP, had opened fire on the farmers of Solra village on September 23. The farmers of Solra had just begun sowing operations in the agricultural tract that had been cleared by the receding waters of Yamuna.

There was considerable tension on the CCS University Campus after incidents of violence on Friday. The tension heightened with the students and their leaders demonstrating outside the V-C’s office; they were seeking the release of students detained in the police station.

Unplanned development takes toll on civic amenities

Traffic jams on the roads here have become a common phenomenon due to the rush of heavy vehicles. In the absence of any planned development, the menace has assumed alarming proportions, giving rise to traffic jams and mishaps. A house in Sector-46 here was burgled on Friday night. The robbers took away cash and valuables worth Rs 15,000. In other incidents, two motorcycles were stolen from separate places in the town. While one motorcycle was lifted from Sector-23 here, the other two-wheeler belonging to one Akhilesh of Trikha Colony was stolen from outside his house.

Sightless guide women rally drivers

They were not groping in the dark or in any blind alley, though they were visually impaired. It was, in fact, a sight to behold, as the sightless guided their women drivers in the fourth All-Women’s Car Rally, which was flagged off from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi and terminated at the Hill View Hotel in Suraj Khund.

Meenakshi Tokas of Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences ruled the pool when she swept all the seven individual gold medals at stake in the women’s section of the 43rd Delhi University Inter-College Swimming Championship at the Talkatora swimming pool on Sunday.

City Club and Indian National moved into the quarter-finals of the Lt. Governor’s Cup Prize Money Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday. City Club rallied to edge past Goan Sports 3-2 while Indian National got the better of Shastri Club by a lone goal.
