Champaran (Raipur), September 1
Congress President Sonia Gandhi said today that the country would face new problems if the BJP gained strength in the states facing elections in November.

Addressing a rally at the conclusion of a Seva Dal training camp at Champaran, about 50 km from Raipur, Ms Gandhi said the BJP and its sister organisations had not only damaged the country’s administrative structure but had made an attempt to destroy the traditions for which Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had laid down their lives. “They can go to any extent for their interests,” she alleged.

Ms Gandhi said the Congress should be voted to power in the five states going to the polls. “If the BJP gains strength, then the country will face new problems.”

The Centre, she said, was insensitive to the problems of people, including farmers, the youth and weaker sections. “The common man is suffering because of the policies of the NDA government.

Senior Congress leaders Motilal Vora, S.C. Shukla, Janardan Dwivedi and Vilasrao Deshmukh, who is in charge of Chhattisgarh, also addressed the gathering.
