SC refuses to intervene
Order on Ayodhya excavation
New Delhi, June 9
The Supreme Court today declined to intervene in the Allahabad High Court’s order for excavating the area around the disputed site at Ayodhya to find out if any temple existed at the place where the Babri masjid stood till December 6, 1992, before it was demolished by a mob.

Armed mobs attack buses

It was hooliganism for four hours here this morning when armed Dalit youths brandished iron rods, lathis and baseball bats and pelted stones on vehicles, forcing shopkeepers and other establishments to put down their shutters amid rumours that the police had resorted to firing in this township.

‘Mazaar’ that sparked violence

Advani, Rumsfeld discuss defence cooperation
Washington, June 9
The meeting between the visiting Deputy Prime Minister of India, Mr L. K. Advani and the US Secretary of Defence, Mr Donald Rumsfeld, at Willard Hotel here on Sunday, is being viewed as yet another step in the Indo-US bilateral relations aimed at stabilising the Asia-Pacific region, maintaining the freedom of sea lanes, particularly in the Indian Ocean region, and combating the menace of terrorism.
