Jamali will hold talks with Vajpayee: Pervez
Islamabad, May 27

Pervez Musharraf Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said any summit-level talks between India and Pakistan will be conducted by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and not by him. Any future talks at the highest level will be held between Mr Jamali and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, General Musharraf was quoted as saying by a private television channel.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today said that his government would take more confidence-building measures to carry forward its peace initiatives with Pakistan but made it clear that for a “meaningful dialogue” to begin Islamabad would have to dismantle its infrastructure of cross-border terrorism.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrived here this evening on the first leg of his three-nation European tour and declared that terrorism would be the “main issue” of his talks with the German leadership.

In a late afternoon development, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has exempted the Chief Secretary and the Director-General of Police from their personal appearance tomorrow after accepting the explanation given by the Punjab Government over the Talhan Jat-Dalit dispute.

Tohra shows some improvement
Patiala, May 27
Veteran Akali leader Gurcharan Singh Tohra, who was admitted to a local hospital following a massive heart attack yesterday, was stated to be improving today though he continues to be on life support system. He was visited by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and the Shiromani Akali Dal President Parkash Singh Badal besides a host of Akali leaders, including the Shiromani Committee chief, Mr Kirpal Singh Badungar, and former Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh.
