Our Correspondent

Amritsar, April 26
The Punjab Police Chief M.S. Bhullar has sought a complete report from the SSP here on the CBSE PMT paper leak scam for submitting it to the CBSE chief Mr Ashok Ganguly.

District police chief Narinder Pal Singh told The Tribune today that he had been instructed by the DGP and a comprehensive report of till date investigation into the alleged PMT paper leak racket unearthed by the police here after the arrest of Sirhind-based Akali leader Dawinder Singh Pappu from a hotel here last Saturday was being prepared. The report would be submitted to the DGP at the earliest, he added.

The SSP said that one more accomplice of Dawinder Singh, Balwinder Singh of Patiala running a PMT academy and working as an associate of already arrested Amrik Singh also running a coaching centre at Patiala had offered to surrender to the police to join the investigation.

Mr Narinder Pal Singh said that teams were being sent again to nab middlemen in this PMT racket operating in and around New Delhi and in Bihar to unravel nexus between certain CBSE officers, agents and academy owners who had offered admission to aspirants to medical colleges for huge sums. He added that the investigation was moving in the right direction and the kingpin would be arrested soon.

According to sources the diary recovered from the main accused Dawinder Singh Pappu had revealed over 100 addresses and telephone numbers of candidates aspiring for admission to medical colleges. The SSP said they were trying to ascertain from these candidates about their links with Pappu and amount paid to him.

The SSP said the modus operandi used by Pappu was to send agents and touts to contact the parents of the aspiring candidates and offered them PMT papers at least eight to 10 hours before the start of the paper for Rs 10 lakh to 15 lakh, which was to be shared with the CBSE officers, main agents and local touts.

Kingpin Dawinder Singh’s is a story of rag to riches, added the district police chief. He said Pappu used to run a small-time photo frame shop at Sirhind and within a few years amassed huge property including rice sheller, shops, residential and landed property. He was also involved in criminal cases including grabbing property through forging documents while his son was involved in a triple murder case and facing trial in a CBI court at Patiala.
