Chandigarh, February 2
The Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee yesterday alleged that the lacuna left in the appointment of the Chahal Commission by the INLD government was preplanned. In a statement here, Mr R.S. Malik, spokesperson for the HPCC, claimed that the Commission was instituted to terrorise Mr Bansi Lal and use him for the INLD’s political purpose. The three-years taken by the Commission for probing irregularities at the time of prohibition in the state imposed during Mr Bansi Lal’s regime and the subsequent step by the court to quash the appointment of the Commission “also smacked of something fishy on the part of INLD and the HVP”, the statement said.

It added that it was a matter of record that scores of documents and affidavits were filed with the Commission within six months of its appointment on the basis of which the government could have proceeded against guilty persons.

The PCC spokesperson claimed that both Mr Om Prakash Chautala, the INLD leader and the Chief Minister, and Mr Bansi Lal, the HVP leader, were hand in glove with each other because they had lost their mass support. He added that survival of both INLD and the HVP depended upon BJP’s support.
