State economy back on rails, says Lal Singh; unfurls National Flag

While stating that the state economy was back on rails, the Finance Minister, Punjab, Mr Lal Singh, yesterday announced that the government would distribute the declared bonus on paddy to the farmers within next 15 days. Republic Day celebrations were held at New Grain Market and Mr Amarjit Singh Shahi, SDM, unfurled the Tricolour. NCC cadets took part in a march-past and the police contingent saluted the flag. Schoolchildren presented a cultural programme.

Former minister Mangewal cremated

Harnek Singh Mangewal, former Punjab minister, who died on January 24 following a brief illness, was cremated at his native village Mangewal, about 40 kms here last evening.

Industrialist found dead  in Mumbai

A city industrialist, Amit (26), was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel at Mumbai a few days ago. His body was brought to here this evening. Family sources said Sunder Nagar-based industrialist had left the city for Delhi 10 days ago. He was scheduled to collect pending bills of several lakhs.

Judicial remand for traffic cops
