The grassroots Bathinda refinery has suffered a setback and been put in orbit with the Atal Behari Vajpayee government deciding to sell 34.01 per cent equity in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd to a strategic investor.

Punjab to abolish octroi soon

The Punjab Government will abolish octroi shortly, as promised by the Congress in its election manifesto. Stating this here today, the Chairman, High-Powered Finance Committee, Punjab, Mr Surinder Singla, said the Punjab Government was exploring other ways for municipal councils to generate income.

Gurdwara panel holds 22 SGPC appointments void
Amritsar, January 27
The two-member Gurdwara Judicial Commission, comprising Mr Kashmir Singh Patti (president) and Mr Raghbir Singh (member) today declared 22 posts of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee as ‘null and void’. These posts were filled by giving “undue promotions” in violation of bylaws of the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925.
