Cabinet reshuffle in 2 phases likely

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is understood to be toying with the idea of reshuffling his Council of Ministers in two phases, the first in the last week of this month and the second in April-May coinciding with the organisational elections of the BJP.

Security advisory board reconstituted
New Delhi, January 17
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today reconstituted the National Security Advisory Board while retaining former Ambassador to China C. V. Ranganathan as its Convener.

Punjab seeks special package
Chandigarh, January 17
The Punjab Chief Minister, Capt. Amarinder Singh, today wrote to the Prime Minister seeking a special economic package for the state on the same pattern as available to Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and J and K.

SYL canal staff to be shifted

The Punjab Government, according to informed sources, has decided to shift almost entire staff that has been posted on the SYL canal project to other wings of the Irrigation Department in the state.

India, Russia sign defence pact

Remove hoardings, EC asks HP

Taking serious note of publicity hoardings on Himachal Government’s performance, put up at public expense, the Election Commission has said these are violative of the Model Code of Conduct effective in the state and directed that these be removed forthwith.
