Norms for overseas investment eased

Finance Minister Jaswant Singh
In a major initiative aimed at liberalising the capital account, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh today announced a slew of measures, including general permission to retain ADR/GDR proceeds abroad for future foreign exchange requirements, removal of the existing limit of $ 20,000 for remittance under the employees stock option scheme and permitting remittance of proceeds up to $ 1 million to India.

Dr Onkar Nath NagiDr Onkar Nath Nagi’s appointment as the Dean of Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research was today set aside, for the second time, by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. His appointment was initially set aside in November, 2001.

Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti The SGPC President, Mr Kirpal Singh Badungar, said today that Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti had given his approval to allow women to perform kirtan in the Harmandar Sahib, but said a final decision in the matter would be taken after the public opinion on the issue.

Acting on a complaint from the National Commission for Minorities that Sikhs brought to lock-ups or jails in the national Capital are forced to remove their turbans, the Delhi police has decided to allow Sikh accused persons to use “patka” in lock-up.
