Jaguar crash toll eight, Air Marshal visits scene

Ambala, November 7
A senior Air Force officer today visited the Jaguar crash site to take stock of the situation even as the death toll rose to eight.

Air Marshal R.C. Mahadik visited the crash site in the Anand Nagar area of Dilipgarh village, Ambala Cantt, this morning. He met affected people and expressed sympathy towards the grief-stricken family members.

The compensation for the affected persons includes a sum of Rs 40,000 to be given to the next of kin of dead (adult) and Rs 20,000 to the next of kin of dead child. The injured (adult) will be given Rs 8,000 while the injured (child) will be given Rs 4,000. Besides that, a sum of Rs 50,000 will be given as compensation for a completely damaged house.

Meanwhile, members of the affected families lamented that no proper arrangement had been made for them by the Air Force officials after the crash. Air Marshal Mahadik ordered Air Force officials to not only set up tents till such time the situation normalises but also provide food to the affected families.

The affected families were not happy with the assistance being provided to them. Although, doctors here said a prompt medical attention was given, the mother of an injured boy, Sahil, alleged that her son was not properly attended to by the doctors.

Sunita, mother of Sahil, said he was only given one injection and the dressing was got done from a private medical practitioner. She said her son should have been properly taken care of.

While a Jaguar crash victim was cremated today, two of the injured Shivani and Jitender have reportedly succumbed to their injuries. The death toll now stands at eight. Some of the injured are stated to be in a critical condition.

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhajan Lal and Leader of the Congress in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha Bhupinder Singh Hooda visited the plane crash site.

Mr Bhajan Lal, who visited the site in the morning, demanded that a maximum compensation should be provided to the affected families and their houses should be re-constructed at the earliest.

“The Jaguar crash is a tragedy and a proper investigation should be carried out to find out the exact cause of the incident,” he said.

Mr Hooda, who visited the site in the evening, said Rs 11,000 would be distributed among the affected families by the District Congress Committee. He demanded that besides Rs 10 lakh as compensation a government job should be given to a family member of the deceased.

Haryana Valmiki Mahasabha members also visited the Jaguar crash site. The members included Mr Banta Ram, Mr Banarsi Das, Ms Kanta Devi, Mr Joginder Ram and Mr Hansraj. They demanded that Rs 10 lakh each should be given as compensation to the affected families.

New Delhi: Expressing concern over the frequent crashes of fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi on Thursday lambasted the government for delaying the acquisition of the Advance Jet Trainers (AJTs).

“How many more aircraft must crash and how many more pilots must be killed before we have the promised AJTs in place?” he said in a statement here.

Mr Kalmadi’s criticism came on the eve of s a crucial meeting of Air Force officials convened by Defence Minister George Fernandes on causes of frequent air crashes.

Drawing attention to the recent Jaguar accident at Ambala, Mr Kalmadi noted that over 150 aircraft had crashed and 60 pilots killed in the past five years.
