BJP leaders on Vigilance list: CM Amritsar, October 23 Although at least four Akali ministers are in the Vigilance net, none of the BJP ministers in the previous government have been touched. The Chief Minister denied that the Congress was “meddling” in Sikh religious affairs to wrest control of the SGPC. He said Mr Parkash Singh Badal was creating a hysteria to gain sympathy. “The Akalis have lost their mental balance”, he retorted to a question pertaining to the allegations of phone tapping made by Mr Badal. He said three vigilance agencies were collecting proof against Mr Badal and his “misdeeds” would be exposed. He termed the adverse comments of Mr Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and Mr Balwinder Bhunder, MLAs, regarding the sending of five trainload of fodder and additional water to Rajasthan as “shameless”. He said the aid was given to a neighbouring state on humanitarian grounds. He said he and his Cabinet colleagues would meet Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on October 28 to request the release of Rs 20 as bonus on the MSP for paddy. He refuted the charges of “throttling” police officers who had exposed the kidney sale racket. He expressed ignorance about the Rs 22 crore that was due from the state government to the local corporation for development. Criticising the Central Government, he said instead of giving subsidy on grain to Arab countries, it would befit the government to extend subsidy to the poor in India. |
