8 Maoists killed
Kathmandu, October 19
Security forces gunned down at least eight Maoist insurgents during search operations in western Nepal, the Himalayan kingdom’s Defence Ministry said today. Insurgents, however, killed Mohan Bahadur Khatri, a retired Major of the Royal Nepal Army at Jethala of Sindhupalchowk district on October 17, the ministry said. UNI

Remand extended
Coochbehar (WB), October 19
The police remand of alleged ISI agent Nazrul, arrested from Jaisalmer last month, was today extended till October 26 by a court at Mekhliganj, near here. The judicial custody of four of his accomplices — Amarjit Roy, Subhas Karmakar, Dipak Karmakar and Shibu Karmakar — was also extended. PTI
