Governor shot in Russia

In the first major political assassination since President Vladimir Putin took office in May, 2000, the Governor of the gold-rich Magadan region was shot dead today near the Kremlin. A contract killer shot Valentin Tsvetkov in the busy Novy Arabat Street. The assailant also targeted Tsvetkov’s deputy, but he escaped unharmed, Russian Television said. UNI

3 die in clash
Jaipur
Three persons were killed and six others injured in a group clash over a land dispute and an old rivalry in Boondi district of Rajasthan last night, the police said today. At least 25 persons of both groups clashed using sharp-edged weapons and lathis at Theekarda village in the district. UNI
