‘Punjab defying SC order on SYL’ Ambala, October 13 Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr Sampat Singh said the Punjab Government had not implemented the court order so far. He said if the construction work on the SYL did not start by January 15 next year, the state government would take up the matter with the Union Government. The Supreme Court had observed that if the Punjab Government could hand over the SYL construction to some Central agency, he added. He criticised the statement of the Haryana Congress chief, Mr Bhajan Lal, that the farmers were not getting the MSP in the state. He said Mr Bhajan Lal should visit various grain markets before issuing any statement over it. At some grain markets, like the Ambala market, the farmers had been getting more than the MSP as private dealers had been purchasing the farmers produce between Rs 600 and 610. Mr Sampat Singh said the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala had himself been touring the grain markets in the state so that he could know about the problems of the farmers personally. Replying to a question, he said all cooperative sugar mills in the state had cleared the arrears of the farmers. Private mills, which had not yet cleared all arrears, would be persuaded in this regard, he added. Replying to another question, he said the government had decided to enhance its revenue through non-conventional resources like on line lottery and casino. |
