Postal tariff to be revised from June 1 Ambala, May 29 For a letter, card, the revised rate will be Rs 2.50 and for a printed postalcard, the rate will be Rs 6. For a competition postcard, the revised rate will be Rs 10. In book, pattern and sample packets, for the first 50 gm or fraction thereof, the revised rate will be Rs 4 and for every additional 50 gm or fraction thereof in excess of 50 gm, the revised rate is Rs 3. In book packet containing periodicals, value of periodicals from Rs 1 to Rs 20 the rate will be Rs 2 for the first 100 gm and part thereof and Rs 3 for every additional 100 gm and part thereof. For value of periodicals from Rs 21 to Rs 50, the rate will be Rs 4 for first 100 gm and part thereof and Rs 5 for every additional 100 gm and part thereof. Value of periodicals from Rs 51 and above the rate will be is Rs 8 for first 100 gm and part thereof and Rs 9 for every additional 100 gm and part thereof. In parcel, first the first 500 gm or fraction thereof the revised rate will be Rs 19 and for every additional 500 gm or fraction thereof in excess of 500 gm, the revised rate is Rs 16. |

Admn to revive fire hydrant system Ambala, May 29 Over a period of time, the fire hydrants fell into disuse. A major reason for the fire hydrants becoming a thing of the past was the lack of sufficient water supply. Except for a handful of fire hydrants which are still in use by the Fire Department, the rest have been relegated to the history pages. The district administration has now decided to revive the fire hydrants the step is being taken to ensure that in case of multiple fires, the fire fighting units can quickly replenish their water stock and tackle fires. The Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, Mr D.D. Gautam, said at least three of the fire hydrants would be repaired. “The estimates of carrying repairs of the fire hydrants have been prepared by the Public Health Department and these will be made functional soon,” he said. |

dealer stabbed
to death Ambala, May 29 According to information, Billa was running a shop on the Jalbera road here. In the afternoon Deepak appeared at his shop and allegedly stabbed him to death. He tried to escape but the neighbouring shopkeepers followed him and nabbed him. The body of Billa was taken to local civil hospital where he was declared dead. Due to some confusion they took back the body for cremation without getting a postmortem done. However, before they could reach the cremation ground, the police reached there and the body was again brought to the civil hospital for post-mortem. |

HIGH COURT Chandigarh, May 29 The three were taken hostage while they were going to Jind from Panchkula following which a petition was filed by the DSP’s brother-in-law Hukam Singh of Charkhi Dadri village in Bhiwani district. Seeking directions for the appointment of a warrant officer to secure the safe release of the DSP and other detainees, besides directions to kisan union leader Ghasi Ram and nine other respondents to release them, Hukam Singh had stated that Mr Nagar, along with others, was going to Jind from Panchkula on May 20 to depose before a Court of law when they were detained. The same day DSP Ashok Sheoran was also waylaid. He tried to pose as a lawyer but was identified and taken hostage by “miscreant armed with spears, swords and
lathis”, he had added. |
Ruchika molestation case adjouned Ambala, May 29 Mr Dhanjal fixed June 10 for filing of reply by the complainant to an application moved by the Former Director General of Police, Haryana, Mr S.P.S. Rathore under Section 34. The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ms Sarita Gupta, yesterday fixed June 10 in a related case. Mr Rathore had moved an application in the court of Ms Sarita Gupta against six persons alleging the theft of a file, which he claims to be relevant in the Ruchika molestation case. On May 17, Mr Rathore’s statement was recorded in the court of Ms Sarita Gupta. |

Woman dies of burns; husband, in-laws booked Ambala, May 29 According to report, Meenakshi locked herself in a room and poured kerosene oil over her body. When she started crying, neighbours rushed to her rescue but by that time she had succumbed to her injuries. According to hospital sources, the deceased received 100 per cent burn injuries. She was immediately brought to the local Civil Hospital where she was declared dead. After conducting a postmortem, the body was handed over to her family. The police has registered a case. The husband of the deceased is working at a wholesale cloth shop. |
Farmers
to get aid for fish ponds Panchkula, May 29 Disclosing this here yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner, Ms Jyoti Arora, said they expected the production of 524 tonnes of fish this year, while a total of 122 hectares of land had been brought under fish production. The fish produce is being sold in Ambala, Yamunanagar and Delhi, apart from the local consumption. Giving details of different schemes for the development of fish production, an amount of Rs 60,000 per hectare was being provided to farmers for digging and development of fish ponds, out of which Rs 12,000 was subsidy. For digging and development of new ponds, Rs 2 lakh was being provided to farmers, including subsidy of Rs 40,000. A sum of Rs 30,000 was being given for other fish inputs, including Rs 6,000 as subsidy, she said. Ms Arora said according to a recent survey by the Fisheries Department, an area of 200 hectares had been identified for ponds and dams for fish production. |
Plan to strengthen power network Panchkula, May 29 This was stated by Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala while dedicating a 66-KV sub-station to the people here on Sunday. He said the government had made a comprehensive plan to fulfill the power requirements of the people for the next five years. He said 2,000-km-long transmission and distribution lines would be erected to reduce line losses and ease power supply position in the state. The government had supplied 30 per cent more power to the consumers than last year, as a result more than 500 lakh units of power were supplied daily. He requested people to make the payment of their pending bills before the end of this month. |
Bail plea dismissed Ambala, May 29 A CBI team had arrested him for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in a tax assessment case from the consultant of a firm at Karnal on May 9. |
