Fraud case against computer institute
Chandigarh, September 27
The police registered a case of a breach of the trust and fraud against a computer training institute in the city here yesterday.
A case under Sections 406 and 420, IPC, has been registered against Jupiter IT Solutions. The institute was engaged in training people in medical transcription.

210 booked for traffic offences in city
Chandigarh, September 27
The traffic police, in association with police personnel drawn from various police stations in the city, launched a special two-hour drive to check traffic violations today. Over 210 commuters were booked in different parts of the city during the drive from 4 pm to 6pm.

Cop caught for taking bribe
SAS Nagar, September 27
The Additional Station House Officer of the Sohana police station was today caught red-handed by a flying squad of the Punjab Vigilance Department while accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 from a complainant of Goggo Majra village in the premises of the police station here. The Additional Station House Officer, SI Bhadhur Singh, had reportedly sought the bribe for registering a case of theft of the complainant.

15-yr-old girl drugged, raped
Chandigarh, September 27
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man at her employer’s residence during the intervening night of September 24 and 25. She had allegedly been coerced into staying overnight by her employer.

Cars stolen
Chandigarh, September 27
Two cars were reportedly stolen from different parts of the city during the past 24 hours.
A Maruti car (CH-01K-5797) was stolen from Sector 34 , while another Maruti car (CH-01T-1472) was stolen during the night intervening September 25 and 26 from Mani Majra.

Two held for possessing poppy husk
SAS Nagar, September 27

The Sohana police has arrested two persons who were allegedly carrying 3 kg of poppy husk at Nanomajra village here on Tuesday night. The suspects, Pawan Kumar (35) and Prabhat (40), were carrying it on a scooter when they were intercepted by a police party.

City lads win quiz contest
Chandigarh, September 27
Sahil Sethi and Misha Pratap, students of Class XII of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, have won the All-India Petroleum Conservation Research Association TV quiz competition. The result of the competition was announced in New Delhi. It will be telecast on DD(I) on Saturday. The quiz master was Roshan Abbas.

NSS camps in city colleges

Biology-orientation programme

About 52 teachers from different schools attended a biology-orientation programme conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education for senior secondary level at the Sector 15 DAV Model School here today.

Education board extends date to submit forms

The Controller of Examinations, Punjab School Education Board, Mrs Harcharanjit Kaur Brar, today said the last date to submit the examination forms of matric and senior secondary class examination had been extended. The last date for private candidates of matric and senior secondary classes with a late fee of Rs 100 had been extended from September 30 to October 5.

Docs fail to get ultrasound centres registered
SAS Nagar, September 27
Doctors in the town are adopting a casual approach to the law on the compulsory registration of ultrasonography centres. So far, only four out of the 20-odd centres here have got registered with the Ropar Civil Surgeon, while three others, including one on the premises of a gurdwara, have applied for registration.

Jaskirat Singh Dullet of Black Elephant Golf Club played a one-under card of 71 today to draw level with the leader, Harinder Gupta, in Category A on the penultimate day of the Chandigarh Open Junior and Subjunior Golf Tournament here today. Both had a score of 220 after the third round.

UT gets rap on road projects

The Union Ministry of Surface Transport has taken the Chandigarh Administration to task, saying it has been slow in carrying out major works relating to new roads and double-laning of the existing ones despite getting Rs 3 crore for specified projects from the Government of India.
