Abohar, July 11
Six persons, including four members of the family of Ved Parkash of Dutarianwali Dhani village, 11 km from here, were murdered last night by Ramesh Kumar, a son-in-law of Ved Parkash and his accomplice.

Those who were done to death by the accused with sharp-edged weapons included Ved Parkash, his wife Bimla Devi, son Rajinder and daughter Suman and two labourers namely Modu and Mani Ram.

Police sources said the accused who were having ‘khapas’(sharp-edged weapons) with them attacked the family of Ved Parkash at about 1.30 a.m. All six died on the spot.

Subhkaran, another son of Ved Parkash, who was injured seriously, saved himself by running away from the scene. He has been admitted in hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.

The sources said DIG, Ferozepore Range, Mr Hardeep Singh Dhillon, SSP, Ferozepore. Mr Harchand Singh Sidhu, DSP, Abohar, Mr Gurmeet Singh Randhawa and other police officials reached the spot to make on-the-spot investigations.

A dog squad was summoned from Ferozepore to nab the criminals. The sources said the killings took place as there was some dispute between Ved Parkash and his mother-in-law Chawli Devi. An action against Sections 107/151 of the Cr P.C. was taken against Ved Parkash in the past on the complaint of Chawli Devi by the police.

This is the second such incident in the Ferozepore range in the past over one month. Earlier, seven members of a family were done to death in Burj Sidhwan village of Muktsar district on May 24 in the similar fashion.

The sources said preliminary investigations revealed that Chawli Devi connived with the husband of her grand-daughter to eliminate her own son-in-law. Land dispute was the cause of the murder.

The sources added that Ved Parkash used to cultivate a piece of land in Khairpur village and few months ago, he had shifted to Dutarianwali Dhani recently.

Though the faces of the accused were covered Subhkaran, who is under treatment, said the assailants included a close relative who was also involved in the property dispute. A case has been registered under Sections 302, 307, 324 and 34 of the IPC. No senior police official could be contacted for his comments.
