Iraq halts oil sale
Baghdad, June 3
Iraq said today that it would not resume oil exports until the UN Security Council backed down on Friday’s resolution that extended a UN oil-for-food exchange by a month instead of the normal six months. Oil Minister Amir Mohammed Rasheed said Baghdad wanted a simple 180-day rollover of the programme. He said that Iraq’s oil trade with its immediate neighbours would not be affected by its decision to halt sales under oil-for-food. Reuters

Chief Justice of Pakistan’s Supreme Court has said the Gen Pervez Musharraf-led military regime in Pakistan will lose legitimacy after October, 2002 if it continued beyond the stipulated period, media reports said today. PTI
