Taking exception to the recitation of kirtan at the Sanatan Dharm Mahavir Temple in New Delhi, Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar, Akal Takht, today sought an explanation from Bhai Chamanjit Singh Lal, known as Bhai Lalji.

Describing the performance of kirtan in a temple to make the installation of idols of Hanuman and Shiva as ‘anti-Panthic’ and gross violation of the Sikh maryada, Jathedar Vedanti said nobody could be permitted to indulge in such activities. He warned if Bhai Lalji failed to give an explanation within the stipulated time, action would be initiated against him.

Arms found from Sirhind canal
Our Correspondent

Ropar, April 19
A huge cache of arms, including two carbines, a Thomson machine gun, a stengun, 12 grenades, 11 magazines and 2,287 cartridges were recovered from the Sirhind canal siphon near Chamkaur Sahib by the Ropar police today. The DSP, Morinda, Mr Sant Singh Dhaliwal, told this correspondent that due to decreased flow of water in the canal, some villagers had spotted the weapons at the canal-bed and informed the local police.

The SSP, Ropar, Mr G.P.S. Bhullar, said the arms were thrown into the canal in a gunny bag. The terrorists seemed to have thrown the weapons into the canal to evade the police.
