Bindra told board of match-fixing
NEW DELHI, April 15 — While former BCCI president, Mr I.S. Bindra, today said “match fixing” had been going on for quite sometime but his complaints about it evoked little result, Bollywood actor Kishan Kumar, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate late last night, was today remanded to 14-day judicial custody.

Thakre defends subsidy cuts
NEW DELHI, April 15 — The National Executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party today began a two-day exercise to take stock of the political and economic situation in the country with the party President, Mr Kushabau Thakre, laying down the tasks before the party workers in the 21st century.

Betting may be legalised
CHANDIGARH, April 15 — The Centre will soon initiate “stern steps” to cleanse the game of cricket of betting and match fixing following thorough deliberations with experts, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said here today.

Armed men seize Daleke’s farm
DALEKE (Tarn Taran), April 15 — Some armed persons took control of the farmhouse of Mr Dilbag Singh Daleke, a senior Congress leader and former Punjab Speaker. Family dispute is behind the action. The farmhouse has been taken control at behest of father-in-law of the son of Mr Daleke.

12 killed, 7 hurt in Tripura massacre
AGARTALA, April 15  — At least twelve persons were killed, seven others injured and an unspecified number of huts gutted by the armed militants of the National Liberation Front of Tripura at Kalyanpur in West Tripura district today.

Bid to blow up AIR tower
100 kg of RDX recovered
SRINAGAR, April 15 — Eight militants were among 11 persons killed in separate incidents of violence in Jammu and Kashmir since yesterday, while the militants made an attempt to blow up the AIR tower here this morning.
