CBI raids Jains
residence CHANDIGARH,April 10 The CBI team searched the official residence of the Chandigarh Home Secretary, Mr N.K. Jain, for eight hours here today. Though the CBI teams had conducted raids at four places, including the house of Mr NK Jain, on April 7 but no search could be conducted as the building was locked and the Home Secretary was away. Earlier on the night of April 6, the CBI had registered a case under Section 120-B and various sub-sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mr NK Jain and Office Superintendent KB Goel. The house of KB Goel and two houses of a business man in Sector 8 were also searched on April 7, the day Union Home Minister, L. K. Advani, was in town. According to witnesses, Mr NK Jain, who had proceeded on long leave on March 21, came back to Chandigarh this morning. Since his official residence had been sealed by the CBI on April 7, a team of investigators immediately arrived on the spot. The seals were opened in the presence of Mr NK Jain and the search started. The search operations continued until late in the evening. Since Mr NK Jain got anticipatory bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, no arrest was made by the raiding party. The CBI officials remained tight-lipped about the entire search operations. They did summon some people from various trades, including some jewellers and even computer experts. The team did take away a
computer and some other items when it left shortly after
6 p.m.It is for the first time that a CBI raid has been
conducted at the residence of an administrative secretary
to the Administration while in office. |
