SRINAGAR, March 26 — A jawan and three militants were killed today in heavy gunfire by the ultras holed up in a mosque and adjacent houses in Handwara town of North Kashmir.

JAMMU, March 26 — Union Home Minister L.K. Advani today vowed to give stronger security to minorities in Jammu and Kashmir, and said that villages inhabited by minorities would soon have a security ring.

Jagir Kaur sends third letter
AMRITSAR, March 26 — Mr Pritam Singh Bhatia, an SGPC executive member and supporter of the SGPC chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur, in a letter to Giani Puran Singh, Jathedar Akal Takht, today sought pardon for opposing the ‘hukamnama’ issued from Guna (Madhya Pradesh).

NEW DELHI, March 26 — The CBI, has decided to form “special teams” and seek additional manpower to probe various defence deals referred to it by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) following orders from the Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes, that all defence deals of the last 15 years be investigated.
