HDFC net up 23 pc
MUMBAI, Jan 11 — HDFC today reported a 23 per cent increase in its net profit at Rs 95.16 crore on the back of a 15 per cent rise in its income from operations at Rs 509.62 crore for the quarter ending December 31, 1999, compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

Protesters storm Moore meeting

NEW DELHI, Jan 11 (PTI) — Protesters led by BJP-affiliated Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) today stormed a meet addressed by WTO Director General Mike Moore and accused the WTO of ‘‘protecting criminals’’.

The protesters, who were demonstrating outside the hotel where the meeting was scheduled to take place, took the organisers by surprise when they entered the seminar hall and hijacked the podium.

‘‘Multinational companies, which your organisation essentially represents, have already embarked on the process of loot and repatriation of resources’’, a pamphlet distributed by the manch at the FICCI function said.

Moore, who was watching the proceedings stoically, commented ‘‘It’s like home.’’

Qualis priced at Rs 4.5 lakh

TOYOTA Motor Corporation (TMC) on Tuesday launched its maiden offering for India — multi-purpose vehicle Qualis — with a base model price of Rs 4.5 lakh and announced that plans are afoot to introduce a small car here.

The existing model line-up from Toyota stables are being considered for the small car and a feasibility study has been initiated to finalise the model to be introduced through Toyota Kirloskar Motor Limited, Managing Director Sachio Yamazaki told newspersons in Delhi.

The Qualis will be available in three versions — FS, GS and GS-T. The FS version will be available in three categories with the base non-air conditioner model priced at Rs 458,900. The air conditioner version will carry a price tag of Rs 499,900, while the unit featuring power steering and an audio system as additional features will be priced at Rs 531,900.

The Qualis GS will cost at Rs 576,900 (with air conditioner and power steering) and Rs 660,900 (with air conditioner, power steering, power windows and audio system). The top end version of Qualis GS-T will sport a price tag of Rs 739,900.

Ford’s Ikon

Ford India on Tuesday increased price of the 1.6 CLXI version of its mid-sized car Ikon by Rs 19,000 to Rs 5.18 lakh.

Ford India also unveiled its 1.6 Rally Sports car with a price tag of Rs 5.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), Ford India Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) John Fink told newsmen.

The rally sport version will be launched in the first week of March, he said.

The Ikon has already received 5360 order receipts in December and the Ikon CLXI 1.3 targets high-end Zen, Santro, Matiz, Indica and Esteem owners. Deliveries of the Ikon 1.3 will begin in the first week of March this year.

Ikon 1.3 CLXI petrol model is powered by the 1299 cc Endura-E engine with 58 brake horse power and is equipped with all luxury features like body coloured bumpers, seat belts in the front and rear, central locking and remote fuel cap release facilities.

Auto Expo

Auto Expo 2000 is starting in Delhi tomorrow. Twentyseven vehicle manufacturers, 1,000 component and ancillary companies and representatives from over 20 countries are participating in the show.

At least 25 new vehicle and model launches are expected. Another 26 new vehicles will be on preview.

The companies that will launch new models/vehicles include Bajaj Auto, Eicher Ford, Godrej and Boyce, General Motors, Kinetic Engineering, Mahindra and Mahindra, Sutlej Motors, Maruti, Mercedes, Tata and Volvo.

The week-long event is being jointly organised by CII the Automobile Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

Infy income vaults 66 pc
Sonata net jumps 101 pc

Infosys Technologies Limited on Tuesday announced a total income of Rs 233.52 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, a 66.6 per cent increase over Rs 140.17 crore for the corresponding quarter in the previous year.

Net profit from ordinary activities for the quarter was Rs 73.79 crore, a 95.50 per cent increase over the corresponding amount of Rs 37.74 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 1998, a company press release said.

The audited financial results according to Indian GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Practices) were taken on record at the Board meeting held in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Sonata Software

Sonata Software has recorded a 101 per cent surge in net profit during the quarter ended December 31, 1999, to close at Rs 6.22 crore. It recording a total income of Rs 42 crore for the quarter, an increase of 47 per cent over the quarter in the previous year.

For the nine months ended December 31, the total turnover was Rs 123 crore as against 83 crore for the same period in the previous year, an increase of 48 per cent. Profit grew faster at 113 per cent at Rs 16 crore as against Rs 7.5 crore for the same period for the previous year.

The company has continued its strong growth during the quarter, as a result of its multi-pronged strategy of concentration on e-commerce offerings, while continuing to capitalise on its strong domestic business.

Aptech bonus likely

Aptech Ltd is recommending a bonus issue for its shareholders.

The company Board of Directors will meet in Mumbai on January 24, 2000 to consider the bonus issue and approve the audited financial results of the company for the year ended December 31, 1999. The Board will also recommend dividend for shareholders, company Executive Director Harshad Shah said in a statement here.

For the previous accounting year, Aptech had earned a total revenue of Rs 278.50 crore and profit after tax of Rs 33.72 crore showing a growth rate of 49.37 per cent. The company had the reserves of Rs 67.85 crore and earning per share of Rs 30.19.

Hughes Software

Hughes Software Systems Ltd (HSSL) has bagged the level four certification of Capability Maturity Model (CMM) given by US-based Software Engineering Institute (SEI).

HDFC net up 23 pc

MUMBAI, Jan 11 (PTI) — HDFC today reported a 23 per cent increase in its net profit at Rs 95.16 crore on the back of a 15 per cent rise in its income from operations at Rs 509.62 crore for the quarter ending December 31, 1999, compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

For the nine month period , it’s net profit shot up by 19 per cent to Rs 267.84 crore on a 12.5 per cent increase in its income from operations at Rs 1442.35 crore, according to the unaudited financial results released here today.

Approvals during the period showed a 27 per cent increase to Rs 3608.15 crore while disbursals shot up by 30 per cent to Rs 2955.34 crore over the same period last year.

The profit before tax shot up by 22 per cent at Rs 110.46 crore and the provision for taxation was Rs 15.30 crore (Rs 12.90 crore).

Polaris proposes 2:1 stock split

CHENNAI, Jan 11 (PTI) — Polaris Software Lab today announced a 2:1 stock split to improve liquidity of the company’s shares.

The decision was taken by the Board of Directors at their meeting here to consider the quarterly results and the stock split.

The Board has also recommended change in face value of the stock to Rs 5 from the earlier Rs 10, a company statement here said.

The company had mopped up about Rs 91 crore from its initial public offering in August where it had sold a share of Rs 10 face value at a premium of Rs 210.

The shares climbed above the Rs 2,000 mark last week and in currently being traded around Rs 1,900 levels.

The Polaris Board took cognisance of the fact that the company had about 35,000 retail investors with 50 shares and decision on the stock split would now give them an opportunity to participate and enhance the retail base.

The Board also considered the financial results for the third quarter of the current fiscal year and reported total revenues at Rs 41.1 crore as against Rs 16.29 crore in the comparable period of last year.

Post-tax profits rose to Rs 8.78 crore for the quarter as against 4.14 crore a year ago.
