Russia expels six Pak missionaries
MOSCOW, Nov 26 (AP) — Russian security officials today expelled six Pakistani missionaries accused of fomenting tension and preaching fundamentalism. The missionaries are Wahhabis, a fundamentalist movement that the Russian authorities have blamed for recent violence in several parts of the former Soviet Union. While preaching Wahhabism in the Bashkortostan region in the southern Ural mountains, the Pakistanis made anti-Russian remarks aimed at fuelling ethnic and religious hostility and offending the dignity of other religious groups,’’ the Federal Security Service office said, according to the Interfax news agency.

Fodder case hearing
PATNA, Nov 26 (PTI) — Former Bihar Chief Ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra, will be produced before the court of designated CBI judge S.K. Lal in connection with the conspiracy angle to the fodder scam tomorrow. Former state ministers Vidya Sagar Nishad, C.P. Verma and RJD MLA R.K. Rana will also be produced before the court in connection with the same case. The case relates to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 97 lakh from the Deoghar treasury by state Animal Husbandry Department officials through "forged and fake" bills.

Shia activist shot
LAHORE, Nov 26 (AP) — Gunmen shot dead a Shia Muslim activist in the eastern Punjab province today, police officials said. Mr Naseer Hussein had dropped his 15-year-old daughter off at school when gunmen intercepted his motor cycle and shot him. Mr Hussein was a member of the militant Tehrik-e-Jafria group, which wants the Shia Muslim law implemented in Pakistan. No one took responsibility for the killing.

Bill on illicit liquor
CHENNAI, Nov 26 (PTI) —In a move to curb the menace of distillation and sale of illicit liquor, a Bill providing stringent punishment for the prohibition offenders was introduced by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in the state assembly today. As per the provisions of the Bill, the offender will have to undergo three years' rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 10,000 for importing, exporting, transporting or possessing liquor of 100 litres and more. Those possessing liquor below 100 litres will have to undergo six months RI and pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

Congress men hold dharna
BUXAR, Nov 26 (PTI) — Congress men today staged a dharna here in protest against the assault on party's senior leader Ramswaroop Agarwal allegedly by Buxar District Magistrate Rajiv Punhani and Superintendent of Police A.K. Verma. Former Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) general secretary Vijay Shankar Mishra urged Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi to immediately transfer the District Magistrate and the SP. He also demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident by Home Secretary R.K. Singh. Mr Mishra said the Buxar district Congress president was "mercilessly" beaten up by the two officials.Top
