The SAD-BJP alliance today organised a major rally here in support of Swaran Salaria, BJP candidate for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha byelection, which is scheduled for October 11. Former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal asked CM Capt Amarinder Singh to list just one achievement during his six-month tenure.

SAD leaders claimed that Sukhbir’s chopper was not allowed to land at Gurdaspur by the district administration, following which he had to drive to the venue. Deputy Commissioner Gurlovleen Singh Sidhu, however, refuted the allegations.

The rally was held at the same place where the Congress had organised one a week ago. Going by the number of people, the gathering vastly surpassed the one organised by the ruling party.

Former minister Bikram Majithia had the audience in splits by lampooning his bete noire Navjot Singh Sidhu. “Sidhu has changed parties like a magician would change hats. The time has come for him to look for some other profession because even the clerks in his ministry have started refusing to obey him. In politics, one Godfather is enough if one has to rise. As for Sidhu, at the last count, he had nearly a dozen,” said Majithia.
