As weather conditions improved in Lahaul and Spiti district, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) intensified its snow-clearance operation on the Manali-Leh highway between Manali and Keylong to ensure road connectivity via the Atal tunnel.

269 village roads still blocked

  • As many as 269 village roads in Lahaul and Spiti have been blocked after heavy snowfall for the past few days
  • As many as 47 electricity transformers have been disrupted in Lahaul and Spiti district in Udaipur and Spiti subdivisions and this has snapped power supply to several villages of the district

Yesterday, the BRO restored a portion of the highway, between Manali and Keylong, to traffic for the movement of 4×4 vehicles.

In Lahaul valley, the BRO restored the Keylong-Darcha highway up to Jispa for the movement of 4×4 vehicles in emergency cases. However, the road leading to Shinkula pass and Padum from Darcha has not been restored yet by the BRO.

There is heavy snow on the ground in this region. Similarly, the operation is still under progress on the Keylong-Udaipur-Tindi road in the district.

The Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphu highway in Lahaul and Spiti has also been restored to traffic from Sumdo to Morang. However, the road is still blocked from Morang to Losar and Losar to Gramphu because of heavy snow there. As many as 269 roads connecting to the villages of Lahaul and Spiti have been blocked to traffic after heavy snowfall for the past few days.

As many as 47 electricity transformers have been disrupted in Lahaul and Spiti district in Udaipur and Spiti subdivisions and this has snapped power supply to several villages of the district.
