Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s NCC cadet Tara recently attended the 369th Special Basic Mountaineering Camp at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali. She was the only cadet selected from Jalandhar group and performed well at the camp. Cadet Tara experienced several adventurous activities during her camp. She was also trained to reside in glaciers at 12,500 feet without electricity during the camp. Rock-climbing and hiking was also a vital part of the training in addition to crossing cold water river, ascending and descending rocks which made the camp daring for her. She also climbed Shitidhar mountain glacier of 15,700 feet range, among 49 cadets, and received training to carry heavy bags of 20 kg on her shoulders to cover the distance of 15 km. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of the Department of NCC. Commanding Officer 2 Punjab (Girls) Battalion of NCC, Jalandhar, Col MS Sachdev congratulated cadet Tara for her performance at the camp.

University exam

Final year students at Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions earned accolades for their achievement in the April 2024 university exam, bringing honours to the college. More than 15 students from different departments received distinction for having CGPA above 9. Gulshanpreet Kaur of MCA Semester-4 achieved an SGPA of 9.30. Harshdeep and Daisy from BCA Semester 6 secured SGPAs of 9.44 and 9.12, respectively. Komal of BBA Semester-6 achieved an SGPA of 9.28. Khushboo and Sukhvir each secured an SGPA of 9.04, while Sanjana and Akanksha each attained an SGPA of 9.0. Students of BHMCT Semester-8, Jagdeep Singh, Jyoti Parkash, and Priya secured perfect SGPAs of 10. Priyanshu Arora and Piyushdeep Singh each achieved an SGPA of 9.38. Roshan, a student of Bachelor of Vocation (Hospitality and Catering Management) or BVOC (HCM), also secured a perfect SGPA of 10. Director of Operations, Rahul Jain, and Director of Academics, Dr Gagandeep Kaur, as well as the Chairman, Dr Anup Bowry, complimented the professors and students on their academic achievements in the university exams.

Skill India competition

Prateek Dutt, a student of Applied Art of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, participated in Skill India 2024 competition. Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra expressed her delight while sharing that Prateek Dutt Sharma of BFA Semester-8 of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, participated in Skill India competition held in Delhi. The event was organised by Government of India. In the competition, nearly 900 students from 30 different states participated in over 61 trades. Prateek Dutt participated in ‘Visual Merchandising’ and won third prize at the national level, a medal and a certificate for the same. Dutt shared that it was an absolute privilege to participate in the competition. Dr Dhingra congratulated him. She also acknowledged the efforts of Anil Gupta, Head, Department of Applied Art, and the other faculty members of the department— Vikram, Manoj and Kunj — for guiding him.

NCC camp

The NCC Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-39) commenced at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara, marking a significant event for the air wing of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). The mega event saw the participation of Emm Aar International School, Adampur, along with 11 schools and colleges comprising 367 cadets, bringing together students from various educational institutions for a 10-day intensive training and development programme. The camp was inaugurated by Commanding Officer Group Captain Manish Kumar, who welcomed the cadets with his encouraging words. In his address, CO Manish Kumar emphasised the importance of the camp as a platform for learning and personal growth. The primary aim of the camp, as highlighted by 1 Punjab Air Squadron, Jalandhar, is to mould cadets into disciplined and responsible citizens who are intellectually endowed. The camp schedule includes drill and parade training, enhancing precision and discipline, rigorous physical exercises to improve stamina and health, lectures and workshops.

Conference held

CT Group of Institutions, CT University, Ludhiana, and City University Ajman, in collaboration with the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), organised the 7th International Multi-Track Conference on Sciences, Engineering, Management, and Technical Innovations (IMSEMTI) 2024. The conference provided an exceptional platform for academicians, research scholars and experts from various disciplines to gather in a hybrid format. The conference was held in both online and offline mode, with around 120 participants joining online from countries including the UAE, India and Azerbaijan, while nearly 50 participants attended in person in Azerbaijan. The event showcased a diverse range of scholarly papers from fields such as medical, environmental, commerce, management, humanities, engineering and technical innovation. Dr Shahla Gahramanova, Associate Professor at the Department of Business Administration, Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), served as a keynote speaker and session chair.
