The block-level games of the third edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan started on Tuesday. The aim of this sports event is to encourage youth participation in sports. The scheduled events will take place till September 11, during which the participants will compete in various sports including athletics, football, kabbadi (national and circle styles), kho-kho and volleyball (smashing and shooting).

From September 3 to 5, the games will be held at Naresh Chandar Stadium, Khanna; Sports Stadium, Sidhwan Bet; GHG Khalsa College, Sudhar, and Sant Santokh Singh Marding Sports Stadium at Duley village. From September 5 to 7, the venues will be Government Senior Secondary School at Siarh village; Sports Stadium at Bhammipura village near Grain Market; Guru Gobind Singh Stadium at Machhiwara, Sports Stadium at Latala and Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana. From September 9 to 11, the games will take place at Government Senior Secondary School in Sahnewal; Sports Stadium in Kila Raipur, Sant Ishar Singh Stadium at Ghalauti, Sports Stadium at Raikot and Government Senior Secondary School in Samrala.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said the district administration had made adequate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the sports extravaganza, including transportation, accommodation, refreshments and security. The DC also encouraged people to participate in sports for a healthy society, adding that the games would provide a platform for budding players to shine in their future careers.

Today, SDM Deepak Bhatia along with District Sports Officer (DSO) Kuldeep Chugh and Teja Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association, and others inaugurated the games at different venues.

The DSO said the events which could not be held today due to rain, would now by held on September 5.
