Kurali ex-MC councillor held in DA case

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Kurali’s ex-MC councillor Gaurav Gupta for helping the former Executive Officer (EO) of Zirakpur Municipal Council, Girish Verma, in a case of amassing disproportionate assets. The VB said Verma and his accomplices Sanjiv Kumar, a resident of Kharar, and Pawan Kumar Sharma of Panchkula, a coloniser, had already been arrested.
A VB spokesperson said the court has allowed police to remand Gaurav Gupta for 4 days for further investigation. The spokesperson said a case was registered in 2022 for accumulation of disproportionate assets against Verma and others, adding that during the investigation it was found that Verma had purchased 19 prime residential and commercial properties in the names of his wife Sangeeta Verma and his son Vikas Verma.
Verma had remained posted as EO in the Municipal Councils of Zirakpur, Kharar, Kurali, and Dera Bassi and used to pass on wrongful benefits to the local builders and developers, and in lieu of that, he obtained illicit money in the form of bank entries in the names of his wife and son from the accounts of the said builders as unsecured loans.
