2 jawans, 4 ultras killed in J&K gunfights

Two Army men and four militants were killed in two encounters in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
Police officials said the encounters broke out within a span of a few hours and the operations to flush out the militants were underway till the evening. According to the police, the first gunfight broke out at Modergam village of Kulgam after the security forces received an input about the presence of militants. As the joint forces zeroed in on the spot, the militants opened fire, triggering an encounter.
Sources said a soldier suffered bullet injuries in the exchange of gunfire and succumbed later. The Kashmir police wrote on X that the encounter began in Kulgam district and the “police and security forces were on the job”. Hours later, the Kashmir police said another encounter broke out in Frisal village, about 20 km from the first site. “Contact established at Frisal Chinnigam area in Kulgam district. Police and security forces are on the job.
Further details shall follow,” the Kashmir police wrote on X.
A senior J&K Police official told The Tribune that the bodies of four militants were sighted and the operation was still underway. According to officials, one soldier too lost life in the Chinnigam operation.
