2 rape cases reported in Mandi

Two minor girls were raped in Mandi district in different incidents. One of these cases was reported at the Janjehli police station and the other one at a women’s police station in the district.

The police said a 17-year-old girl of the Janjehli police station area was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old youth on October 21, when the girl had gone to a relative’s house to attend a wedding. The accused allegedly threatened the victim of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone. The victim, however, told her parents, who later lodged an FIR against the accused. The accused is absconding.

Another case was reported in Mandi, in which Chhape Ram (45) of Nancha village allegedly raped a 16-year-old in a forest area. The girl was in the forest to graze her cattle. Finding her alone in the area, the accused overpowered her and raped her.

The police have booked both accused.
