Summy Sony, a councillor from Ward 6, was unanimously elected president of Nadaun Nagar Panchayat today.

A no-confidence motion was moved against the sitting president and vice president of the Nagar Panchayat 15 days ago. The motion was signed by five of the seven members of the NP.

Usha Sondhi was elected vice president of the NP.

Nadaun is only prominent town of the Nadaun Assembly constituency that is represented by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The Nagar Panchayat here was earlier led by BJP-supported members. The move to replace the governing body of the Nagar Panchayat started after the formation of the Sukhu-led government in the state.

Summy Sony, the newly elected president, said he was thankful to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and people of the town who had entrusted him with the responsibility.

He said his priority would be providing clean streets and improving streetlighting in the town. Sony added that the disposal of garbage was also major issue and needed to be addressed. He said the CM had promised that all pending development works of the town would be completed and funds would not be a constraint.
