Chandigarh-Manali highway reopens
Mandi, July 6
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reopened the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway for traffic last night. The highway was blocked following a landslide around 1 am at 7 Miles in Mandi district, disrupting traffic movement between Mandi and Pandoh.
A substantial amount of debris following the landslide blocked the highway for almost two hours. NHAI teams, equipped with heavy machinery and emergency response protocols, swiftly got into action to clear the obstructions and ensure the safety of the highway for commuters. The restoration teams worked round-the-clock to remove debris from the highway. Traffic was diverted onto alternative routes though the priority of the NHAI was to reopen the highway as soon as possible.
Mandi Additional SP Sagar Chander said that apart from 7 Miles, traffic was also disrupted at Pulghrat due to a landslide on the highway. A few hanging boulders were removed to avoid any untoward incident during the rainy season.
