Incumbent Sirsa MP Kumari Selja today said that the party’s high command would choose the Chief Minister, who could be from any community, including a Dalit.

Selja said that the Congress “is fully prepared and united for the Assembly elections, and people are also ready to bring the Congress back to power”.

She expressed her desire to contest the Assembly elections but added that the high command would take the final decision on her candidature.

She said that the public had observed the BJP’s style of functioning for 10 years, and released that nothing substantial had been done on the ground. “In any case, the BJP has no connection with people, and whenever its leaders speak, they tell lies. Their statements and promises were hollow and now the BJP leaders are changing their tones, with everyone saying something different,” she added.

Selja said that the Congress ensured that the final decision was made by the high command, whether it’s about ticket distribution or on the Chief Minister choice.

“The Congress screening committee is working on ticket alloaction and our Central Election Committee is working with all factors in mind. There are 90 seats in the state, and decisions will be made after thorough deliberations.”

During a conversation with mediapersons, Selja said that the hype created by the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections had faded, and the public had deflated its 400-plus slogan.

She said, “The public has witnessed deceit and hollow promises made over the past 10 years in Haryana. Even the BJP has realised that people have understood its tactics, leading to the replacement of the Chief Minister, but this won’t change anything. Now, we are hearing different statements from the Chief Minister and the BJP state president.”

“The Congress must now focus on the entire Haryana and its residents for the next 10 years. The BJP’s 10-year misrule has led to Haryana falling behind, and we need to move forward from there. We need to focus on ensuring jobs, employment, and quality education for the youth of Haryana,” she said.
