Oh Yeah! It’s Daler Mehndi

The singing sensation of Punjabi music, Daler Mehndi, has much to feel happy about with his upcoming Bollywood film tracks in Sui Dhaaga, Happy Bhaag Jayegi Returns and most of all, his song entering Cannes 2018 via Namrta Singh Gujral-directed Hollywood film featuring Bo Derek, Nargis Fakhri, Rajkummar Rao, which opens to the title track sung by Daler Mehndi. 

The song, U U Yeah, written and composed by Daler Mehndi, opened at Cannes on May 11.  The director tweeted expressing how happy she was to have Daler Mehndi on board.  Bolo Ta Ra Ra, the cult Daler Mehndi track was the requirement of the director, but after listening to the film’s script, Taran Mehndi, who looks after Daler’s content licensing, suggested U U Yeah, much to the pleasure of Gujral as the song completely fitted the film’s requirement. 

D Records or Daler Mehndi Music Label, as it is popularly referred to, seals another international licensing with U U Yeah. “It is indeed a very thrilling moment for me,” quips this singing star, who was in Ludhiana for a wedding function. 

He shares another point of joy as on International Museum Day, which falls on 18 May 2018  - Daler Mehndi’s iconic bejeweled flowing robe, the golden leafed Tunak Tunak T-shirt and diamante-studded turban makes it to the India’s first interactive music museum. Daler Mehndi wore this costume at the Youfest held in Madrid, Spain in 2012, where he represented India.

Daler quips, “I always sing these blessings by Bhagat Kabir whenever I perform at a wedding concert. Amidst the naach gaana, I feel the true essence of the matrimony celebrations is incomplete if one doesn’t involve the Divine.” Be it Rang De Basanti to Dangal, Vande Matram, India India, Nanak Naam Jaahaz Hai – Daler Mehndi’s voice is synonymous to energy, motivation and positivity.

He feels strongly about the lack of originality in music which appears to be cool by sending out images doused in brands and using the social media to hype their image. He is quite happy with his image and wants to be known for his originality in looks and music both.
