Patiala, September 5
Patiala shooter Amiteshwar bagged six medals in the 22nd Himachal Pradesh State Shooting Championship held at Kuthar (Solan) on August 29.
Son on a serving police officer Mandeep Singh Sidhu posted as Commandant at Ladda Kothi, Amiteshwar won four individual medals and two team medals. At present Amiteshwar is studying at Lawrence School Sanawar.
“I am proud of my father who helped me in achieving this feat. It is the first step towards my ultimate goal, which is to be among the top shooters of the country,” said Amiteshwar.
“After I shifted from Patiala, things are bit difficult as now I am in a boarding school. But my teachers and the school administration have been very kind in providing me with good facilities for training,” he said.
Amiteshwar has won gold in air rifle sub-junior men, gold in .22 rifle junior men, another gold in air sub-junior men team event and a silver medal in air youth men event.
“I got a few days to practise because of tight study schedule as I had my exams followed by summer break. However my coach ensured that I remain focussed,” he said. — TNS
