Chandigarh: St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, defeated Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, 1-0 to win the ICSE inter-school football championship here on Friday. Vedansh Verma scored the solitary goal of the match in the 38th minute. 

Rowing trials on September 9 

Chandigarh: he Chandigarh Rowing Association will organise trials to select teams for the upcoming 39th Junior Rowing National Championship on September 9 (7am) at the Sukhna Lake. The trials will be organised in the men’s/women’s single sculls, double sculls, coxless pairs and coxless fours. Rowers born on or after January 1, 2001, will be eligible to take part in the trials. The national championship is scheduled to be held from October 2 to 7 in Bhopa

Ankur wins taekwondo bronze 

Mohali: Ankur Singh Saini, a student of Chandigarh University Gharuan, has won the bronze medal at the Seocheon International Taekwondo Daejeon MDC Cup, held in South Korea. The Indian team won two silver and two bronze medals. A total of 35 countries participated in this tournament. Saini won the bronze in the 58 kg Senior Flyweight category of the tournament.  He beat Shing-Liu 7-5 during the league match, and knocked out Oein-Feng-Shu from Japan 5-3 in his pre-quarterfinal match. In the quarterfinal, Ankur Saini beat Sui Lui Lui of China 6-3. However, in semis, he went down fighting against Dominick Sowien 4-6 from Malaysia to finish with a bronze medal.  Saini had earlier won a silver medal in 55 kg category during the 2017 Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship in Canada.      

Malhan retires as HoD Phy Edu

Chandigarh: Suman Malhan, a former international basketball player, retired from the post of Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Physical Education of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, on Sunday. She had represented the country in 1982 Asian Games and Asian Confederation Cup. She is a recipient of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award and also captained the Punjab team on various occasions. TNS
