Fatehgarh Sahib

4 drug peddlers held: The district police have arrested four drug peddlers at various nakas and seized narcotic capsules, poppy husk, smack and illegal whisky. The accused have been identified as Gurkirpal Singh alias Kaka, Rajneesh Kumar, Ghanshyam and Narbeshwar Kumar alias Raju, all residents of Sirhind. Cases under the NDPS Act have been registered.

Man booked for fraud: The police have booked a cloth merchant of Sirhind for allegedly having an affair with a woman on the pretext of marrying her. He also allegedly threatened to kill her. The accused has been identified as Amar Kumar. Harjinder Singh, Station House Officer, Fatehgarh Sahib police station, said a case had been registered.

Seminar on milk adulteration: Verka held a seminar to raise awareness on the production of milk under hygienic conditions among farmers of Patiala and Samana. The farmers were provided with milk testing material and stainless steel utensils free of cost.

2 held for illegal mining: The Forest Department officials nabbed two persons for mining illegally in the Sutlej in Chamkaur Sahib on the intervening night of October 6 and 7. The officials intercepted 10 tippers loaded with sand, but eight of the offenders managed to flee with their vehicles. The accused have been identified as Jaspal Singh and Swaran Singh of Nawanshahr and Ludhiana.

Samrala

Tension in Samrala after sacrilege: Tension prevailed in the town after unidentified persons tore pages of a holy book at Harion village near here. The Samrala police have registered a case under Section 295-A. SGPC member Sarbans Singh Manki described the incident as a serious matter. He appealed to the Sikh sangat to remain calm.

4 booked for murder: Gurpreet Singh (22) of Goindwal Sahib village was allegedly killed by four unidentified youths on Tuesday night. Sources said Gurpreet was attacked by the youths with sharp weapons near Ghagge village. The victim had received severe head injuries.

1 booked for molesting girl: Joban Singh of Bhalaipur Dogran village has been booked for allegedly molesting a girl of his village. A Class X student, the victim alleged the accused had passed derogatory remarks against her when she was returning from school. He then forcibly entered her house and molested her, she alleged.

Majority govt to strengthen Centre: Modi’s brother : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brother Somabhai Modi said on Wednesday, “The PM is an able statesman who has lived up to people’s expectations.” He said a majority government in state would strengthen the Centre. “The BJP doesn’t have a majority in Rajya Sabha. If the party comes to power in Haryana and Maharashtra on its own, the party will take a step towards getting a majority in the Upper House, necessary for the smooth passage of laws,” he added.

Drug peddler held with narcotics : The police nabbed a drug peddler, identified as Vikas, alias Kaka of Bhadroya, and recovered psychotropic drugs from him last evening. A case under the NDPS Act had been registered against him.

Patwaris hold protest: Agitating patwaris under the banner of the Parvartiya Patwari Mahasangh gathered at Parade Ground here yesterday and raised slogans in support of their demands. They decided to boycott the police duty till the state government did not fulfil their demands. They threatened to intensify agitation if their demands were not met.
