Educationists honoured:
Panjab University senator Sanjeev Kumar Arora honoured senior educationists Urmil Sethi, OP Chaudhary, Ramesh Setia and state award recipient social activist Raj Kumar Charaya at a function organised by Lions Club here last night. Former DEOs Sandeep Dhuria and Harbans Singh Chahal were special guests.

Building collapses, four injured: Four labourers, including a woman, were trapped when a three-storey building under construction at Suratgarh in Sriganganagar collapsed today. Three JCB machines were used to rescue the labourers. Assa Ram’s legs and arms were fractured. Roshani Devi, Kalu ram and Prahlad Singh sustained minor injuries.

Goods worth R
s 1.5 lakh stolen: Thieves struck at a flex printing shop on Barnala Road and decamped with goods worth Rs 1.5 lakh late last night. Sanjeev Kumar, the owner of the shop, said he received information this morning that the shutter of the shop had been broken. The police have started the investigation.

SS Channy, a retired 1982-batch IAS officer, has been appointed Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). The post fell vacant after the term of Ramesh Inder Singh, former Chief Secretary, ended on June 28.

Soon, health cards for all, says Badal: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Wednesday that all state residents would be issued health cards. He asked the Health Department to chalk out a plan for this exercise. He also announced a “health audit”.

Child labourer rescued:
After receiving a complaint at 1098, the Child Helpline, a raid was conducted at a sweetmeat shop at Mullanpur-Dakha. A 14-year-old boy was rescued by officials. Deepak Kumar, legal-cum-probation officer, District Child Protection Union, said the child was handed over to his parents.”

The state government on Wednesday announced ex gratia or performance award to employees of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board or Market Committee for 2013-14 at the rate of 15% of the salary, subject to a maximum of Rs 40,000 to group B, C and D employees.

Workshop trains info officers on RTI:
A two day-workshop was organised to train information officers on proper implementation of the Right To Information Act 2005 by the Nainital-based Uttarakhand Academy of Administration here yesterday. On the first day of the workshop, training was imparted regarding action to be taken on applications received under the RTI. The deputy director of the academy, Dr Rakesh Kumar Pandey, said officials should understand the Act properly and any doubts should be cleared at the earliest.
