Housefed Cooperative Housing Scheme Tribune News Service
Mohali, September 5 In the notice, about 2.5 times the original price has been demanded within 60 days, instead of in 120 installments spread over 10 years, as per the scheme. The complainant, Balbir Singh Gurm and others contended that the Housefed had floated a housing scheme in January 2004 when the complainants were allotted flats. The allotment letter gave them an option to pay the price in easy installments and said the possession will be given within three years i.e. in 2007. Apparently, the Housefed delayed the construction inordinately and the possession was now offered after a delay of 10 years. The flats are, allegedly, not inhabitable as there is no electricity connection or availability of other essential amenities. Due to the delay, the cost of the dwelling unit had also gone up. The complainant cannot be penalised for the delay caused by the Housefed. In fact, the complainant needs to be compensated for the delay. Even otherwise, the calculations related to escalation are erroneous and excessive. The Housefed had threatened to levy penal interest and coercive action in case the demanded payment is not made by September 15. The forum, however, issued a notice to Housefed to reply by September 22 and stayed the letter of demand. |
