2.5 kg opium seized: The police have arrested Manpreet Singh of Shahpeeni village in Hanumangarh district and seized 2.5 kg opium. The accused was going to sell the contraband in Muktsar, the police said.

Six vehicle thieves held: The police on Wednesday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of thieves and arrested six persons. The thieves would steal vehicles, dismantle these and sell the spare parts.

Girl killed, thrown into canal: The postmortem of a minor girl on Wednesday indicated that she had not drowned, but was killed and thrown into the Gang canal. The police said Pooja Meghwal (13) from the Dalit community had gone missing on August 22.

The Haryana Government has imposed a ban on the transfer of employees of all government departments, boards and corporations with immediate effect.

Power generation: Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited has set a new benchmark by generating 723.47 lakh units of electricity in a day on August 26.

Protest over road mishap :Residents of Babepur village on Tuesday disrupted traffic on the Jhajjar-Gudiyani road for over two hours over a hit-and-run accident in which a man died. The protesters were demanding immediate arrest of the truck driver and a government job to the next of kin.

Rail passes to remain valid:
Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda said on Tuesday that the facility for travelling in the express trains by the monthly pass holders would not be withdrawn from September 1 as announced earlier. A delegation of daily passengers from Sonepat pointed out that if travelling in the express trains was stopped, it would be difficult for the daily commuters to reach their offices on time.

200 colonies to be developed:
Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Rana said on Tuesday that the state government had decided to undertake development works in colonies that were in the process of getting authorised. He said there were about 200 such colonies in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri where development works would be undertaken by the MC.

Agri Dept collects samples: The Agriculture Department on Tuesday took 39 samples of insecticides from shops of insecticide and fertiliser dealers of Yamunanagar district during a surprise checking drive. The samples have been sent to the Directorate of the Agriculture Department, Panchkula.
