Transfer orders modified
:
The state government on Thursday modified transfer orders of two out of 34 PPS Officers which were released on August 19. A government release said Rajinder Singh has been posted as the SP (Investigation), while Sheilendra Singh has been posted as the Assistant Commandant, 1st Bn. Bahadurgarh (Patiala).

Patwari held for graft: The Vigilance Bureau on Thursday claimed to have nabbed a Patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000. An official spokesperson said Patwari Ajit Ram, posted at Malewal, Balachaur tehsil in SBS Nagar district, was caught on the complaint of Harbhaj Ram of Garle Dhaahan village. Harbhaj Ram had alleged that Ajit Ram had demanded a bribe for demarcation of his land. The official said a trap was laid by a team of Vigilance Bureau led by DSP Joginder Pal and the accused was nabbed while accepting the bribe.

Child falls into borewell, dies
: A two-year-old girl was killed after she fell into a borewell while playing at her house in Khanaura village. The borewell is dug in the courtyard of the house. It was covered, but the child (Preet) uncovered it while playing. Deceased's mother Monika said the child was taken out from the borewell and rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her "brought dead".

Tablet snatched:
A youth riding a scooter snatched a tablet from a student in the Kochar Market area while the latter was returning home after attending coaching classes. Last evening, when Abhiraj, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, reached Kochar Market, the accused snatched the tablet. He raised the alarm, but the accused fled. A case has been registered.

Teacher commits suicide
: A private schoolteacher on Thursday allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house on the Abohar road following a dispute in the school. Sources said the victim was depressed as her husband and mother-in-law reportedly refused to intervene in the matter. The police have booked the deceased's husband, mother-in-law, besides school principal and a teacher. No arrest has been made so far.

Soccer body chief
: Samir Thapar, CMD JCT Mills, Phagwara, and Deepak Kumar, former Captain of the Indian football team, were unanimously elected president and secretary, respectively, of the Punjab Football Association at a meeting of the PFA. Members from almost all district units of the association attended the meeting.

Sangrur
2 students feared drowned
: Two teenaged boys are feared to have been drowned in the Babbanpur canal near Dhuri on Thursday. Reported to be students of a senior secondary school in Malerkotla, they have been identified as Mohammad Irshad and Mohammad Aasif. The SHO of the Sadar police station, Dhuri, said the boys had gone to bathe in the canal.

Regularisation policy
:
The state government has decided to regularise the services of Group ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ employees and workers of the boards and corporations as per its regularisation policy. A spokesperson said a notification to this effect had been issued by the Chief Secretary.

CPS resignation: The state government has accepted the resignation of Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sultan Singh, attached with the Minister of Irrigation and Transport.

2 more to join SC panel: The state government on Thursday appointed Manoj Bagri of Sonepat and Phool Singh Sansi of Rohtak as members of the Haryana State Commission for Scheduled Castes. Col. Arya Vir, a member of the commission, has been re-designated as its Vice-Chairman.

Kandela Khap chief joins Cong:
INLD leader and head of the Kandela Khap Tek Ram on Thursday joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda along with his supporters. Tek Ram, who had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections as the INLD ticket, said he had given unconditional support to the Congress.
