Student’s rape: Victim’s parents, kin stage dharna

Day after the DEO’s visit to Government School in Sunet, the parents of the rape victim, along with the residents of the village, staged a dharna outside the school and demanded registration of a case against the schoolteacher and transfer of the principal.

MC officer alleges political interference

Over an “illegal” construction at Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, the owner of which has been served notice by the building branch of the MC, Harbhajan Singh Dang, husband of SAD councillor Surjit Kaur Dang, allegedly had a tiff with senior officials of the MC.

Man robbed of bike; purse snatched
Ludhiana, July 9
The Sarabha Nagar police today registered two cases of roadside robbery and snatching.
The first incident took place on the night of July 6 when Manoj Singh, an employee of a restaurant, was returning home.

Education Dept’s drive against drugs

The Education Department has decided to launch a coordinated movement to make the masses aware about causes and consequences of drug addiction.

Bittu seeks sewage treatment plant

MC union members meet commissioner, press demands

A delegation of Municipal Karamchari Dal met MC Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal here today and presented their charter of demands.
Led by chairman Vijay Danav, the delegation said that all their demands were heard patiently by the commissioner, who assured that the demands, which were to be fulfilled at his end, would be met soon while those that needed to be sent to the state government, would be presented to higher authorities at the earliest.

3 minor fire incidents reported in district

31 fined for smoking at public places

Following the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr Subhash Batta, a team of health officials fined 31 persons fro smoking at public places. An amount of Rs 6,100 was collected as fine.

Medical camp
A round the clock medical camp is going on at Dharamshala in Sihora village after the diarrhea outbreak. 37 patients were examined till 5 pm, out of which 2 new cases of diarrhea were reported on Wednesday. The remaining were old cases of diarrhea or pain in abdomen and other ailments.
Man booked for kidnapping son
Ludhiana, July 9
High drama was witnessed at Aman Nagar on Ferozepur Road when a woman, along with her relatives, claimed that somebody had kidnapped her 12-year-old son this morning.
Later, it came to light that the boy was forcibly taken away by his father.

Man commits suicide
Ludhiana, July 9
A 30-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in the Pavittar Nagar area here today.
The deceased has been identified as Krishan Kumar. The incident came to light this morning when Krishan’s wife, along with her father and children, arrived at the house. Krishan worked as a waiter.
