Life term for murder:
A local court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for murdering her paramour in 2005. A case under section 302 was registered against Surjit Kaur of Harchowal village for allegedly giving a drink laced with a heavy dose of intoxicants to Iqbal Singh of the same village. The court acquitted two other accused, Salwinder Singh and Balwinder Kaur, for the lack of evidence

Youth killed in mishap:
A youth died, while another got injured, when two motorcycles collided near Pandori Arayian village in Dasuya. Both of them suffered serious injuries and were taken to Dasuya Civil Hospital. Samson of Bala Kullian village breathed his last at the hospital, while Balwinder of Bala Kullian village is undergoing treatment. A case has been registered against Kishan of Kartarpur in Jalandhar. No arrest has been made so far.

Man held in rape case:
Two months after a woman was gangraped in Ambemajra village, the third accused, Hussan has been arrested. The accused was produced in the court that remanded him in police custody. Panna (not real name) in her complaint to the police said five persons entered her shop on May 2 and raped her. A case had been registered. The accused are Nikka, Raju alias Raj Kumar, Hussan, Hardeep Singh alias Guggu, while the fifth accused could not be identified. The police said they would soon arrest the remaining accused.

NRI held with arms:
The Goraya Police have arrested NRI Santokh Singh Sukha of Sarhal village in Nawanshahar district and recovered five pistols, 31 cartridges and 20 kg of poppy husk from a Gypsy here on Monday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Parminder Singh said the accused was nabbed at a naka. A case has been registered.

Vehicle snatched:The police have booked three persons for allegedly snatching an MUV from its owner. Two youths and a woman had hired an Innova from Rayyia. When they reached near Barna village, they allegedly pushed the driver out of the vehicle and sped away.

Ex-councillor robbed:Two motorcycle-borne youths allegedly snatched a gold chain from a former councilor, Savita Ahuja. The victim was returning home when the snatchers attacked her in the local Baba Gadhia locality. A case has been registered.
