Boost for industry
Dera Bassi, July 8 The decision in this context was taken by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal in a meeting including Sukhbir Badal, Anil Joshi, NK Sharma and some other senior officers of different departments. Apart from some other amendments in the Act, now the industrialists have to satisfy norms laid down by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) for setting up of industrial units in the area. Earlier, the industrialists had to seek permissions from various departments to set up industrial units which a tedious task. There was a specific area earmarked for the industrial units. In the meeting for approval to amend the existing master plans for Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Lalru and parts of Mohali that fall in Zirakpur area, to a micro-level master plan of the areas was also granted, said area MLA, NK Sharma. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Sharma revealed that the government has asked Jurong International Limited, a Singapore-based company, to prepare a blue print of the micro-level master plan of Zirakpur, Dera Bassi and Lalru municipal areas. Under this plan, there would be earmarked areas for hospitals, administrative complexes, sports complexes, health and educational institutions, parking sites, for water storage tanks, sewerage system, solid water collection centres and dump yards, informed the MLA. The government is focusing on a planned development in 15 villages that were recently included in the Dera Bassi municipal limits. Meanwhile, Dera Bassi Industries Association (DBIA) has expressed its resentment against the government for not taking the industrialists into confidence before taking the decision in this regard. Rakesh Rattan Aggarwal, general secretary of the association, claimed that the PRTPDB did not circulate a draft of the proposed amendments in the PRTPD Act before giving it a final shape. “The government had formed a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) here for boosting the industry and generating employment opportunities for local unemployed youth without taking the industrialists into confidence. The SEZ failed to fulfill the purpose and the government was forced to scrap it,” claimed Aggarwal. |

Godrej penalised for failing to deliver washing machine on promised date
Chandigarh, July 8 The forum has directed the company to refund Rs.22,410 with interest, paid online by the complainant, and to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation for mental agony, in addition to Rs 3,000 as cost of litigation. The complainant, Gaurav Prakash, stated that he ordered a Godrej Glitz Washing Machine by making online payment of Rs 22,410, through his SBI card, on the website of Homeshop18, on November16, 2013. The washing machine was to be delivered by November 24, 2013. However, when the machine was not delivered by the stipulated date and there was a delay in delivery of the machine, he sent several e-mails to the opposite party (Godrej) to cancel the order and refund the amount, but to no avail. The opposite party, in its reply, admitted the factual matrix of the case and pleaded that the delay occurred due to extra time consumed in manufacturing and quality checks. “The Complainant had also been given an option to either wait for the machine ordered or to take any other model similar to the model ordered by him. The request of the complainant for refund was received on December 14, 2013.” “The opposite party has held its ground that having refunded the amount received from the complainant, no cause is made out against it for which the complainant can be awarded interest on the amount along with the compensation and litigation expenses. However, the party has not placed on record any document to prove that it had promptly answered the queries of the complainant. The party may have refunded the amount on January 17, 2014, but there is no proof on record for us to believe that the complainant was in full knowledge of the receipt of this amount at the time of filing of the present complaint. The party failed in its promise.” |
