Schools put forth demands
: Members of the Government Aided Schools Progressive Front, Punjab, have questioned why the state government is not paying their medical and house rent allowance as per the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations even though the state had appointed a number of chairmen and directors in various departments. They demanded that the officiating principals and headmasters should be regularised.

Phagwara
Youth run over by train:
A Bihari migrant youth, Ashok Kumar, was run over by a train near the Phagwara railway station on Thursday night. The Government Railway Police have registered a case and sent the body to the local Civil Hospital for a post-morterm examination.

CM’s effigy burnt: Activists of the Ambedkar Sena Mool Niwasi (Punjab) held a demonstration in protest against the alleged boycott of Dalits in Sangrur district on Friday. They also burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. State president of the outfit Harbhaghan Suman led a march from Ambedkar Park in Hargobind Nagar to rest house where a rally was held. Speakers condemned the apathetic attitude of the SAD-BJP government towards Dalits in the state.

2 IPS officers shifted:
The Haryana Government has transferred two IPS officers. Shrikant Jadhav, IGP, State Crime Record Bureau, Madhuban, has been transferred as IGP(Telecom). Rakesh Arya, SP (Telecom) with additional charge as AIG(Administration), has been transferred as SP, Police Training Centre, Sunaria.

More ART centres planned: The Haryana Government has decided to open anti-retroviral treatment therepy centres in seven districts of the state to provide free treatment to HIV and AIDS patients. This information was given at a committee meeting on HIV and AIDS of the Haryana State AIDS Control Society today. The meeting presided over by Dr Narender Arora, Director-General, Health Services, aimed at preparing a strategy for prevention of HIV and AIDS.

Yamunanagar
Police seize 5 trucks loaded with illegal wine:
The Sadar Police, Yamunanagar, seized five trucks loaded with illegal wine from Damala village on the Yamunanagar-Kurukshetra road, late Thursday night. SHO Sachin said they were tipped-off that some trucks loaded with illegal wine were parked near the Damala toll plaza. He said when the raiding team headed by him reached the spot; some people were shifting the boxes of wine. The truck drivers and the labourers managed to flee from the spot, but the five trucks were taken to the police station.

Worker electrocuted at Jagadhri’s metal factory: A worker was electrocuted while working in a metal factory at Jagadhri on Thursday morning. He has been identified as Raj Kumar, a residence of Durga Gardan in Jagadhri. He was rushed to the local Civil Hospital, where he died. The police handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem.
