Abohar
50 kg poppy husk seized:
The police have seized 50 kg of poppy husk from Amandeep Singh and Harmeet Singh of Danewala Satkosi village near Panjkosi. They intercepted the motorcycle which they were using to smuggle the contraband from Rajasthan, near village Diwankhera. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered. Another team nabbed Rajvir Singh and Bablu of Panjkosi village and seized 44 bottles of illicit liquor, which they were reportedly going to sell in rural areas. A case under the Excise Act has been registered.

2 killed in accident: Devi Lal (30) and his relative Gyan Chand (32) of Choohriwala Dhanna village were killed when the motorcycle they were riding on was allegedly hit by an unidentified vehicle at Angan Chowk on the Abohar-Fazilka road on Tuesday night. The bodies were handed to their kin after post-mortem examination at Nehru Memorial Civil hospital. A case has been registered.

3 jailed for attack: Bhalinder Singh, Pawan Kumar and Vijay Kumar have been awarded one-year jail each for attacking without provocation a resident of Diwankhera village, Satnam Dass, in 2007.

Ashok Kumar is BSF IG:
Ashok Kumar, a senior IPS officer of 1989 batch of Uttrakhand cadre, has assumed the charge as the Inspector General of the Punjab Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSP) replacing Ajay Kumar Tomar.

Ludhiana
Buyer-seller meet from July 5:
A Buyers and Sellers meet will be held in Delhi from July 5 to 7 at Hotel Tourist and Tourist Deluxe, wherein entrepreneurs from Ludhiana knitwear/textile industry will showcase the products manufactured by them. Over 1,000 clients from every part of the country will take part in the meet.

SAD leader in judicial custody:
SAD general council member Jagtar Singh Bhaini was sent to judicial custody after he was produced at Anandpur Sahib court near here on Wednesday. The SAD leader was arrested since he along with nearly 25 youths had allegedly attacked complainants in an MGNREGA case against him at Bhaini village yesterday. A case was registered against Jagtar Singh and the other accused.

Sangrur
2 booked in dowry case:
A 19-year-old girl, Sukhpal Kaur, wife of Gurtej Singh of Jhanerri village (near Gharachon) allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself. Her father Pushpinder Singh alleged her in-laws had been harassing her for more dowry. A case has been registered against Gurtej Singh and his mother Shinder Kaur.

Tarn Taran
Man hurt in firing:
Seven persons have been booked for opening firing on Kuljit Singh of Fatehbad village. The accused are Parampal Singh, brothers Inderjit Singh, Surjit Singh and Sarabjit Singh, residents of Chhehrta (Amritsar), besides three unidentified persons. Kuljit said there was some litigation dispute between him and Parampal Singh and the verdict of the case was to be declared on July 1, when the accused opened fire on him.

Dehradun
Harak Rawat is Mukhya Nagar Adhikari:
Additional District Magistrate, Haridwar, Harak Singh Rawat has been appointed Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation today. The regular appointment came nearly four months after former MNA Ashok Kumar was removed for his failure to control the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the city. The charge was given on officiating basis to the then District Magistrate, BVRC Purshottam.

Extension: Arun Dhaundiyal took over as Officer on Special Duty and Secretary to Governor Aziz Qureshi. Dhaundiyal, who was to retire on Monday, was given extension.
